Design is about stepping back and seeing a problem with fresh eyes

A bit about me

The more time I spend in the world of design, the quicker things seem to move. But as the craft and technology change, the fundamentals remain unchanged in my mind: Understand behaviours, solve problems, create delightful experiences, and deliver meaningful value to users.

These intentions are at the heart of everything I do, whether by my own hand or enabling others.

In my 14 years on the job I've been lucky enough to work in a mind-bending digital agency (Resn), an esteemed wealth management firm (Jarden), and a big bustling bank (BNZ).

I started as a UI designer, animator, and CSS dev. As time went by I fell in love with the science and craft of UX. I found it fascinating to hear a user's frustrations. And got a kick when we removed those frustrations.

I also began to realise that great user outcomes aren't enough on their own. They need to be paired with business goals to have sustainable impact.

I honed my craft, and eventually discovered I had skills and experience to share. I now get as much joy from mentoring and guiding others as I do seeing a great user outcome.

And I realise there is always more to know. So I keep learning, keep the axe sharp.

Good designers are praised for their technique, great designers for their impact - Tate Linden
